                 Yeats International Summer School -

                     Frequently Asked Questions.....

                    Am I eligible to attend?

Yes, everybody is welcome to apply for a place. We advise young people not to come until they have left school, but  there is no upper age limit! Lectures and Seminars are challenging and of a very high academic standard, so the "students" who attend derive much stimulus. Some will be advanced Yeatsian scholars - others may have a general love of literature and want to learn more, but there is always a place for the person who admits to little knowledge, but who is keen to appreciate the rich literary feast.

                     How do I apply?

Just download an application form and post it in, with payment of €100  Registration fee, or complete the form on-line and advise us of your Visa or Mastercard                                details.

This is safest done by telephone - 00-353-71-91-42693

How much will it cost me to attend?

                                                   2008 Prices

Registration fee:      100 Euro, when booking (non-refundable)

(Total Tuition fee: 595 Euro or 375 Euro - residue paid in advance by 1st July

Cheapest accommodation:   300 Euro for two weeks or 150 Euro for one week

Food (expensive in Ireland):   200 Euro per week approximately

Travel to Sligo (probably via Dublin):  Varied according to distance etc.

Train Dublin-Sligo Return:   38 Euro approximately (Monthly Return)

Spending money                  Varied according to choice and chance!

                        What about Scholarships?

When you have worked out for yourself  what your costs would be, then YOU must decide:

                        a) Can you afford to come for one or two weeks?

                        b) Could you afford to come if you got a small amount of help to pay the

                         fee?

If so, then you might like to apply for a TUITION SCHOLARSHIP.

You need to apply for a place for one or two weeks, enclose your  100 euro Registration fee, and your letter explaining why you want  to come to the Summer School, and how you think it would help your studies.

You will also need a letter from someone in your University who knows    your work well, who will write a letter to the Yeats Society  to  tell us why we should give you a Scholarship.

If the Committee finds you more deserving than the other applicants,   they will offer you some funding.  If it is enough, and if you can afford the rest, then you decide to     come.

If   NOT, then you tell us and we send you back 75 euro from your Registration fee, if this means that you cannot come at all.    Otherwise, you have just have to pay the full amount yourself, that is, the residue of the fees and all other expenses.

         OR

You decide that you really want to attend the Yeats Summer School, but you cannot afford the Tuition Fee and Accommodation fee, but COULD pay for your travel, food and living expenses. In this case, you apply for one of the PIERCE LOUGRAN MEMORIAL  SCHOLARSHIPS.

You write your letter explaining your desire to come, and how you   think you would benefit from the experience, and why you cannot pay for yourself, and you get someone in a well-respected position  who knows you and your circumstances well, to verify your   application. You do NOT have to send a Registration fee. If the Scholarship Committee considers you to be one of the most worthy applicants, they will award you a Pierce Loughran Memorial Scholarship, and you decide to attend free of charge, and we provide your accommodation free of charge, OR, we tell you that you were not successful, and you are therefore unable to attend.

                              What Seminars should I attend?

The list of Seminars will be posted on the web-site as soon as they  are decided and you may give a 1st and 2nd choice for each of the two weeks. We try to accommodate everyone according to choice,  but numbers have to be limited, so we can give no guarantee to later   applicants!

                               Does everyone attend Seminars?

No. The Drama Workshop takes place each afternoon, Monday-  Friday Week 1 and Monday-Thursday Week 2, so those who opt   to take the Drama Workshop are not able to get to the Seminars, which are held 4.30pm-6.00pm on the above days.

Do I pay extra for the Seminars or Drama Workshop?

No, the charges are included in the Tuition fees.

                                What about the Poetry Workshop?

This is held on Saturday 2nd August 2008, 9.30-4.30 and on                                           Sunday   3rd August 9.30-4.00pm.There is an extra charge for this, of €100,which needs to be paid with the Registration fee. Places are limited so early application is essential.

Where can I stay in Sligo?

You choose! There are many places available. There are several hotels and guest houses with various prices, but those near the centre fill very rapidly. Hostels are the cheapest option, but are very basic and lack privacy and safe storage of your property.

We advise you to choose a single, or a double room ( if you are  happy to share) in theYeats Village Apartments and Town Houses complex. You will share the sitting room/dining room/kitchen with fellow students, and have your own bedroom with toilet and washbasin. The bathroom/showers are shared by up to five persons in each apartment or house.

This complex is about 20 minutes walk from the town, and will effectively be the Summer School Campus. A bus runs each  morning to take students to lectures

Charges for 2008 are as follows:-

Single room €165 per 7 days

Twin Room  €165 per 7 days

Twin Bedded room double occupancy €240 per room

                                            (€120 per person) per 7days)

Other locations include Gateway Apartments (www.gateway

                                  rentals.ie) or

                                  Ardnua Village (www.ardnuavillage.com) offering similar

accommodation, but further from the town centre, or Guest

Houses or Hotels, which also may be further from the centre,

                                  and more expensive.
