OBJECTIVES OF THE YEATS SOCIETY SLIGO (YSS)
The main objectives of the YSS, as currently agreed, are summarised as follows:
1. To promote the literature of W.B Yeats and other Irish writers.
2. To perpetuate the memory of the Yeats family and to promote an interest in, and an understanding of, the art of the Yeats family and other Irish artists.
3. To foster local, national and international interest in the literature and art of the Yeats family and stimulate local participation in YSS events / activities.
4. To support the development of the Yeats Country through tourist and commercial activities related to the Yeatsian artistic achievement.
In brief, the YSS aims, over time, to develop Yeats' stature in Sligo in a similar manner to that afforded other literary giants, such as Shakespeare in Stratford-on-Avon and the Bronte Sisters in Yorkshire.
